Bio

Aditi Fruitwala (@AditiFruitwala) is a Staff Attorney with the ACLU Center for Liberty, focusing on eliminating the use of religion to discriminate, advancing LGBTQ & gender justice, and combatting the family policing system.

Previously, she worked at the ACLU of Southern California as a fellow with the Police Practices Project and then as a Staff Attorney with the LGBTQ, Gender, and Reproductive Justice Project, where she challenged LAPD’s use of gang injunctions, expanded paid family leave and lactation rights in California, helped secure healthcare and accommodations for pregnant and lactating people in California jails, and fought discrimination against transgender and nonbinary people. Prior to the ACLU of Southern California, Aditi served as an Honors Deputy Attorney General under AG Kamala Harris with the California Department of Justice.

Aditi graduated from American University, the London School of Economics, and Berkeley School of Law, where she was co-editor-in-chief of the Berkeley Journal of Gender Law & Justice. Aditi serves on the mentorship board of Satrang, an organization serving LGBTQ South Asians.
