Bio
Arli Christian is a Senior Policy Counsel in the ACLU’s National Political Advocacy Department advancing legislative and administrative initiatives to support and protect LGBTQ people. Arli works to ensure all LGBTQ people have access to competent healthcare, accurate ID documents, safe housing, employment opportunities, and other rights and protections we need to survive and thrive.
Prior to joining the ACLU, Arli served as the State Policy Director at the National Center for Transgender Equality and worked with coalitions across the country to modernize ID document gender change policies, remove insurance exclusions for coverage of transition-related care, and improve other state-level protections for transgender people.
Arli is a lawyer admitted to practice in New York and Washington D.C. and received a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and a B.A. from Wesleyan University. Prior to law school Arli worked at an immigration law firm in San Francisco and a financial non-profit focused on equitable and sustainable investments in Maryland. Arli speaks English and Spanish, grew up in New York City, and lives in Washington DC.
