FCC v. ATT
What's at Stake
Whether a provision of the Freedom of Information Act designed to protect "personal privacy" applies to corporations.
Summary
The Freedom of Information Act contains an exemption for law enforcement records if their disclosure "could reasonably be expected to constitute an unwarranted invasion of privacy." In an amicus brief submitted with several other organizations, the ACLU argues that Congress did not intend this "personal privacy" exemption to apply to corporate entities, whose interest in shielding confidential financial information is protected by a separate FOIA exemption.
