McConnell v. FEC
What's at Stake
Reviewing campaign finance law. DECIDED
Summary
This case challenges the constitutionality of key provisions of the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. Among other things, the law would prohibit the ACLU from broadcasting a radio or TV ad criticizing the civil liberties position of either the President or his opponent in the 60 days preceding next year's election. The ACLU argues in its brief that this restriction on so-called issue ads violates the First Amendment.
