The ACLU, ACLU of Indiana, and Demōs filed a lawsuit in federal court on behalf of Common Cause Indiana challenging a state law that permitted election officials to immediately purge the registrations of Indiana voters based on an interstate matching program known as the “Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck Program” (Crosscheck).

In April 2018, the ACLU, the ACLU of Indiana and Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky (PPINK) filed a federal lawsuit challenging a state law passed in 2018 that requires health providers to submit a report to the state when a woman who has had an abortion seeks treatment for a wide range of health conditions. Physicians who fail to submit these reports would face criminal penalties and possible jail time.

On May 25, 2011 the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, and the National Immigration Law Center (NILC). filed a class action lawsuit challenging a discriminatory Indiana law inspired by Arizona’s notorious SB 1070. According to the lawsuit, the law unlawfully authorizes police to make warrantless arrests of individuals based on assumed immigration status and criminalizes the mere use or acceptance of the commonly used consular ID card. The groups charged that the law would lead to racial profiling and trample upon the rights of all Indiana residents in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

The American Civil Liberties Union, The ACLU of Indiana, along with attorney Sean Lemieux of the Lemieux Law Office in Indianapolis, have filed a lawsuit in federal court on behalf of 13 plaintiffs seeking the freedom marry in Indiana.

The American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU of Indiana and Planned Parenthood Federation of America have challenged amendments to state laws that single out one health care center in Lafayette, Ind. for a host of unnecessary new regulations. The lawsuit, filed in federal court on behalf of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky against the Indiana State Department of Health and the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor, claims that these laws violate the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
