ACLU Requests State Department Documents on ‘Faith-Based Media’ Briefing
WASHINGTON — In response to reports that Secretary of State Michael Pompeo held a press briefing restricted to “faith-based media” outlets, the ACLU submitted a Freedom of Information Act request today for documents related to this event.
Daniel Mach, director of the ACLU Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief, issued the following statement:
“We are troubled by reports that the State Department held a briefing exclusively for ‘faith-based media.’ The government has no business discriminating against media outlets based on their religious affiliation or lack thereof. The American people deserve to know more about this administration’s religious favoritism, and we expect State to comply quickly with this request.”
