Kansas Must Begin Registering 18,000 Eligible Voters It Had Illegally Blocked
TOPEKA, Kan. — Today marks the deadline for Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to start registering more than 18,000 Kansans who have tried to register to vote but were blocked from doing so under the state’s illegal documentation requirements. A federal appeals court recently rejected Kobach's efforts to keep those eligible voters from registering. That ruling stems from the American Civil Liberties Union's lawsuit.
Dale Ho, director of the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project, said:
“Secretary Kobach has repeatedly stood in the way of thousands of Kansans who have tried to exercise their right to vote. Today that ends. He must let them vote.”
